If it were something big, they would wait until next week. If it does come out today, it probably means it's just some of the standard "performance upgrade" type things.

This article does state that Microsoft's "Entertainment & Devices Division" is expected to turn a profit this year, though. I don't know about "since 2008", but i don't have a reason to doubt you.

The fact does remain, though, that they have not made a net profit - over total investment - yet, since 1999. They may have made a profit for the last couple of years, but they are "expected to come in at $773 million for the year that ends...

I wonder if they have changed the plan for episode 3, and are expanding it to a full sequel. That would explain why it has taken so long to make what would have been one third of a game. The ending of episode 2 also makes me wonder if the portal gun will be in the next half life game.

It's true, sites seem to care only about getting a "scoop" and don't bother actually researching anything. They post unsubstantiated rumors without even bothering to ask anyone. And that's the BEST sites, the worst ones use sensationalism for cheap hits.

A good journalist is one who writes only FACTS, or, if rumors, has connections to be able to say "according to my sources within the company..." A terrible journalist is one who says "a...

There are gyroscopes too. The PSEye actually does a really good job of seeing the subtle motions of the sphere, but the other "guts" of the controller tell how the controller itself is rotated, the sphere + Eye just find position.

As for that archery game, they COULD do that by just using the controller as a pointer, but i think the two-Move setup uses their relative positions to determine where you're aiming, not just for the gimmick (though the gimmick is a b...

The main problem is accessibility, though. Sony is not just making this thing for us, they want it to appeal to people who don't game regularly. Adding more buttons and analogue sticks starts to intimidate those people.

Just adding a sphere to the navigator controller would be really cheap, but without the other motion sensors, it would be more limited in its applications. I would like to see it, but Sony has other things to consider besides what would be most "co...

The story I saw had them saying that the ANIMATIONS were "as beautiful as Uncharted 2." Of course, when the gaming press gets involved, quotes get misrepresented, whether to fish for hits or just stupidity on the writer's part.

This concept could be adapted to create a better version of the "glasses free" 3D TV's. The current idea sacrifices by halving resolution that each eye sees and only works from certain angles, but a TV that uses a bank of really small versions of this would give the 3D effect without sacrificing anything. It might not be a workable idea any time soon, though.

That thing on CNN during the Presidential election was smoke and mirrors. It used coordinated camera placements and trickery to do what it appeared to do. Those "holograms" weren't actually on set, they were graphics overlaid on the video feed. This technology might be limited to small sizes because of the spinning mirror. Get a big mirror spinning that fast and the stresses would shatter it, sending glass shards straight at your eyes.

I have seen similar tech a few years ago, too. I have some questions about how this works still (I don't understand how the image changes when you move up and down), and think it probably has limited applications, but this looks like it would be really nice for 3D modeling. I have zero experience in that field, but it seems like being able to see and manipulate a character model, for example, using this sort of display and an interface like Move would make it easier.

That's because the big sites know what a trap these private events can be, and are probably turning down invitations. They know that events like this are engineered to make a positive impression all around (eg. host bars), and can give the guest an inflated impression of the product.

Early reviews for "Tony Hawk: Ride" were done at private events kind of like what we're seeing at these Natal showings, and were all very positive (see Electronic Gaming Monthly, issue 238.0, p. 18). Tony Hawk: Ride has a metascore in the mid 40's now, after other reviews came out.

Conversely, nobody should doubt that Natal will show some impressive stuff at E3, as will Move. Doubt that it will be as awesome as others think, but it is going to have some co...

I think $150 for stand-alone is high, but $300 for a Natal equipped Arcade is entirely marketable. If consumers think it's enough of an improvement over the Wii with Natal and HD, I could easily see it selling at that price. Look at how many people paid $250 for a Wii.

I checked out the IMDB page for the Uncharted movie and noticed that the producer, Ari Arad, has another project listed as coming out in 2011 titled "Infamous". Certainly could be something different with that title, but it got me wondering...

Development times run two years for established studios working on established franchises. They have to get settled in, create a new IP, possibly build a new engine from scratch, all while having most, if not all, of their employees involved in a lawsuit.

They're probably still organizing. Even if they have started on something, it's still in early concept stages. It's not news that they don't have anything ready to pitch to the publisher.

The manager at my local GameStop once referred to The Legend of Zelda series as "fighting" games. That must mean that Nintendo told him they were releasing a fighting game based on that series.

Clearly that girl misinterpreted something. There's no way that GameStop stores would have that information. Not at the store level for sure.

So Move adds only 2ms of lag over that. By the time you add in a game's lag, that 6ms is negligible. Games tend to run at around 100ms, with 67 being the practical minimum (for 60Hz framerate games). Move will only increase this to about 106ms on most games, or increase the practical minimum to 73ms.

In short, the small increase in latency from Move is much less than the variance in latency that you see from game to game, or even variances with a single game. If you d...
